Casino Night Raises $20,000 for Charity!!

The Victoria Golf Club Charity Tournament Committee hosted our 2nd Annual Casino Night on Saturday, June 4th.  The event was thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended.  The evening included live auction items, draw prizes, a hockey pool and a Black Jack Tournament.

There were many successful bidders for the live auction items. Tom Fraser is going to Whistler for 2 nights and 8 rounds of golf, donated by Fairmont Chateau Whistler Golf Club, Dr.’s Bill and Vicki Mather, and Retire-at- Home Services. Bill Tafe will be on the beach and at the links for 7 nights and 6 rounds of golf in San Jose Del Cabo, Mexico, donated by Dream Homes of Cabo Real Estate. Valerie Fitzpatrick & Craig and Catherine Langpap will be learning how to hit it straight and long with a playing round with Canada’s Long Drive Champion Lisa Longball. Janet Ricciuti and two friends are going golfing with Russ Courtnall at Sherwood Golf Club. Thanks to all of you who did not win the bid but contributed to the auction. There were several draw prizes for the evening and some of our Members and their guests were very lucky! Fred Rohani went home with a $600 Catering certificate from De’lish Catering and a new golf bag donated by Manulife Financial. Hilary Mackiey won a playing lesson with Mike Parker

AND Paul Farkas(she may have to take up golf!). Camille Kelly is going to Quadra Island and April Point Resort, a donation by Oak Bay Marine Group. Steve Turner is teeing it up with Collin McCulley. Valerie Fitzpatrick cannot seem to get away from lessons with her favourite pro Arlen Wocknitz, with whom she won a playing lesson. John Tidman was the lucky winner of the hockey pool.

The winners of the Black Jack Tournament were Paul Vandermade $2,000, Terry Allen $500 and Saare Adams $300.  Congratulations!  We would like to acknowledge the people who donated to this event to make it such a huge success; Craig and Catherine Langpap, Tom Ramsay, Tom Schreiber, Richard and Linda Auchinleck, Paula Carey, Bob Russell, John and Brenda Rogers and Larry and Patricia Murphy.

The committee is now moving on and focusing our efforts on our upcoming Tournament on Thursday, June 23rd. Most of our major sponsors are in place and we are close to full on our hole sponsor commitments.  Our goal of a $100,000 gift to Transition House is within our reach!  If you are interested in helping us reach that goal through sponsorship or a tax receipt by donation, please contact Tilly Enriquez at tillyenriquez@gmail.com.

Lisa Longball (Vlooswyk) will be at the tournament conducting a clinic on how to hit the ball straighter and longer.  Her longest drive in competition is over 350 yards! The Clinic June 23rd at 11:00 a.m.is open to all Members with admission by donation. Check around the Club for more information or call the Pro Shop at 250-598-4322.

New for this year is the opportunity to attend the Tournament dinner, even though you may not be playing.  If you are interested in attending, please email vgccharity@victoriagolf.com or phone Norma Jean at reception at 250-598-4321. A charitable tax receipt will be issued.  Also, do not forget to check out the many silent auction items online at www.vgccharity.com or in the fireside lounge on Tournament day; everyone is welcome to bid. That is a lot of news!  It is a busy month for the committee and the staff at VGC.  A special Thank You to all who help to make The Victoria Golf Club Charity Tournament BC’s Premier Women’s Charity Golf Event!
